Loss Adjustment, Assessment & Investigations

Loss assessment involves determining quantum of loss while adjustment involves determining the extent of loss in light of the policy conditions, warranties, applicable excess/deductibles, insurable interest and other insurance principles.

Upon receiving express instructions from an insurer, we request the contact person in the claims department to avail us with any information tendered by the claimant together with the underwriting details like a policy schedule or jacket and proposal form which we peruse to guide our assessment/adjustment process. We then contact the insured or the broker to link us to the insured’s contact person, from who we get a brief on the circumstances of the loss/incident to further prepare the process before meeting the insured.

The stretched process involves reviewing all background information of the insured, investigating the circumstances of loss, verification of facts, further planning of the investigation if it involves coordinating with other service providers, but only after consultation with the insurer and lastly concluding the investigation and reporting to the insurer.

Please note that we provide preliminary reports within the first 24 hours of the assignment advising the insurer on the circumstances surrounding the loss and most importantly, the claim reserve.

Investigation is the process of inquiring into or examining a matter or incident, either formally or systematically. We use a wide range of investigative aids such as photographic evidence, physical evidence, plans and diagrams, police investigations, fire brigade investigations in cases involving fire, witness statements, technical experts, weather reports, crime reports, medical evidence and underwriters’ files.

Even when engaging different service providers, we manage the investigation process in a timely manner and regularly report to the insurer of any novel developments. We are also conscious of how we or our agents communicate to the insured with a respectable attitude.
